US Corruption – the President
Unfortunately, this is a continuing theme, but it continues to be important to highlight state corruption, as the citizens of the United States are entitled to believe that their tax dollars are being used appropriately, not being diverted to autocrats. This article, from MSNBC, from Rachel Maddow, may be less objective, but there are many valid points. As I continue to mention, Mr. Trump and his family, within the first ten months in power, have created many opportunities, based upon the president’s position, to abuse the president’s power. ” what potentially could have been a bribe was never traced, and no one knows, to this day, officially, why Trump, all these years later, is still thanking the strongman leader of Egypt for something he did to help Trump in his campaign against Clinton. At that same event on Monday in Egypt, Trump was caught on a hot mic seemingly trying to set up a meeting between his son Eric Trump, who manages the family business, and the president of Indonesia.” And this doesn’t even touch on Qatar, the plane that will come to Trump’s presidential library as well as a golf course for the Trump family, with Qatar receiving access to an existing airbase in Idaho, which would remain under U.S. jurisdiction. This support is for a government that was considered a terrorist country under Trump’s first administration.
Why should we care and what should we do? The reason we should care is that government is not there to enrich the officials themselves, they are there to manage and make certain that country’s assets are preserved and hopefully enhanced to benefit the citizenry. How this is done is by choices made by the officials, but self-enhancement should not be a part of that choice. In these cases, the personal interests of these individuals are of primary importance, and the country is a distant second. These behaviors are completely wrong, and it is important to bring these actions to light. More also needs to occur, and as seen in many other countries, it takes time to come to the point when citizens realize that they are being stolen from and start taking united action. Additionally, there are several governmental authorities that can also start moving against such actions, but that also takes time as countries where state capture is still a surprise for the honest elements of a government, and they have to unite and fight the corruption through legal enforcement mechanisms. As there still is a free press in the US, they are taking a good deal of notice, and it looks like they will continue their very good work. What may happen now is an example of how to address corruption, in an environment where it comes unexpectedly. Maybe the US can provide some good lessons learned. We can only hope.
