Anti-corruption court in Ukraine keeps on working but we ask for more
It’s always good to see anti-corruption working in Ukraine. This article, by Ukrinform, shows that it can reach beyond the capital. And, yet there is a slight feeling that we have seen many very senior people being indicted but we don’t see the trials nor do we see the final convictions. It does sound a bit like we expect more, as after all the country is at war and the court keeps on working even as the drones and missiles attack.
But shouldn’t we expect more? As we all see, the anti-corruption court is working and the anti-corruption bodies are working, but after six years, is this as good as it gets, two attorneys in Poltava? We must require more of these bodies, as the goal is to bring grand corruption to trial and presently the only body that can do this is the anti-corruption court.
What must we do then? We must keep on focusing on their work, we need point out the positive achievements, but we must continue to put the pressure on them, as corruption at the highest levels will make moving forward with investments and support difficult. The international donors, and civil society should not step back. This is how we as anti-corruption practitioners can support the people of Ukraine
