Good news from the Caribbean

It is always good to highlight positive developments. The Turks and Caicos Weekly News reported on such positive advancements in the Caribbean, specifically with the Turks and Caicos Islands. During a conference the group from the Turks and Caicos Islands took the lead in “[a} major breakthrough for the conference, and a significant initiative championed by the TCI delegation, was the agreement to further investigate the benefits of the VLEX Legal Database-driven AI system.

This groundbreaking technology, designed to fortify legal research, asset recovery, and case management initiatives, received positive reception from the Commonwealth Secretariat, CARICOM IMPACS, and UNODC.”

This type of digital technological approach is important for countries as they address areas of potential corruption. Case management is a very important element in the fight against corruption in enforcement. To move forward in this area is difficult as corrupt court officials prefer that case management continues in a paper form as  evidence can be lost as well as files, or simply having a case prolonged or vanished are all common corrupt methodologies.

What more should be done? The digital approach is important, but what is essential is that the system must being used and monitoring and support should be an important element of any program tied to digitalization. Additionally, reporting on positive data supporting the new programs is both positive and keeps the focus on these actions.
