Polling – more polls to follow US perceptions and perspectives on corruption
This very short article by the Revolving Door Project , which uses very strong language regarding their perspective on the Trump administration, does provide a broad cross-section of polling information in the United States, providing insights into the concerns of the citizens regarding corruption and other topics. Though as I note the language is more incendiary than needed it does address the ongoing concerns, ”[a]s effective opposition movements are built up, tracking how Americans view the fascist takeover of American institutions and the corrupt, public-private entanglements that got us here is crucial.
Why should we care? As the new US administration ramps up and begins moving in areas which are more apt to be corrupt, i.e. the role of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act becomes more limited, shadowy tariff negotiations, more perverse interpretation of laws, the perspective of the US citizens will be important. It will be useful to have more objective measures to identify other corruption indicators, which will continue to come to light and provided transparency to the actions of the US government. And, as I have noted on many occasions, this will also be important for anti-corruption CSOs to continue monitoring and use this information to hold the US government accountable. This is now looking like it will be essential since there are fewer and fewer governmental limitations in place.
